As Close as You Want To

August 6, 2008

That’s’ how close you and I can get to God. That’s right. It’s up to us. The ball is in our court. God has already extended an invitation to us to draw close to Him. James 4:8 says that “If we draw nigh unto God, He will draw nigh unto us.” Every effort to get close to God is rewarded by Him with more intimacy. The invitation to be intimate with our heavenly Father is the greatest offering of relationship that we could accept.

In Psalm 27:8 in the NLT we hear David responding to God saying “My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with Me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’” God is always prompting us in our hearts to draw near unto Him. James 4:5 further expresses how much God desires relationship with us by stating,”The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously.” He passionately wants us.

Isn’t it wonderful that The Great and Mighty God of the Universe desires to be intimately involved with us? It has nothing to do with how good we are but everything to do with how good and loving He is. He desires to be as close to us as we will let Him. God will not force Himself upon us or make us love Him. He wants us to want Him. He wants to be the object of our affection. The passion of our hearts. He wants to be sought after willingly and wholeheartedly.

He has always been looking for people who would seek Him. 2 Chronicles 16:9 tells us “The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” God is looking for you and me to seek Him. Will we do it? He is waiting and He wants you and I. Let’s draw close to Him.

We can be as close to God as we want to be.
